THIS SATURDAY! Limited tickets available. RSVP for pre-show dinner: kavita.sherman@gmail.com by Jan 10

PFLAG Cleveland is planning a group outing to attend "Exact Change" on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT), 6415 Detroit Avenue, in the Gordon Square District. The play starts at 7 p.m., and PFLAG members will meet beforehand at a nearby restaurant.

CPT is offering PFLAG Cleveland a special group rate to see the production, which previews Jan. 9 and runs from Jan. 10-25. The coupon code is for 20% off advance purchase tickets, ordered online or by phone. The special rate is available for PFLAG members throughout the entire show, not just for the Jan. 11 production.

PFLAG Cleveland member Kavita Sherman is coordinating the restaurant gathering. To ensure adequate seating, please email her no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, at kavita.sherman@gmail.com. If you're able to attend the show, but not the pre-show dinner, it's worth noting that every Saturday throughout the run, CPT will host a post-show Q & A with "Exact Change's" writer/performer Christine Howey. Additionally, every Friday at CPT is “Free beer Friday” – audience is invited to stay after the show, mingle with artists and enjoy a drink on CPT.

"Exact Change" is written and performed by Christine Howey and directed by Scott Plate. This powerful new play is about finding your voice and championing your identity. Before transitioning in 1990, Ms. Howey was a celebrated stage actor in Cleveland, known for playing such heavy-hitting male roles as Lucifer, Goebbels, “Terrible Jim Fitch,” Richard Nixon, God and others. Exact Change explores Howey’s gender transition from many angles in a one-woman tour-de-force spiked with political rants, historical reflections and an incisive wit that packs a punch. Developed through CPT’s New Work Development series, Ms. Howey’s work has been described as “rewarding and life-changing theatre” (Fran Heller, Cleveland Jewish News), combining spoken word poetry, monologue and dialogue in a deeply personal show that is as amusing as it is poignant.

“I feel a strong need to communicate the challenging issues and deep satisfaction that comes from finding one’s true gender. I know the idea of a gender change is a very foreign one for most people…so I wanted to make the feelings and aspirations of a transgender person accessible and as understandable as possible.“

- Christine Howey

Shows run Thursdays through Saturdays and Mondays at 7pm at CPT. CPT offers an intimate venue and only seats 100, so order tickets soon to be part of the PFLAG theater outing. Tickets range in price from $12 - $28.
